Billy’s 650b Bassi Bloomfield (53.5cm)
Customers who opt for a Bloomfield are a special breed and Billy is no exception. This frame really pushes folks to follow their hearts into the beauty of simplicity and to pursue modern comforts all while paying homage to cycling’s roots. We love that the Bloomfield, a strictly singlespeed/fixed gear frame, can fit 650b x 42mm tires (with fenders and brakes!) as it makes for such an amazingly fun platform. This build runs a dynamo wheelset. If you’re not familiar with hub dynamos, they’re essentially little generators that add virtually no weight or resistance to your bike but power the lighting (or sometimes a charging setup.) Dynamo is an amazing maintenance free, charge free option for your bike! On top of that Billy went for a really classy build with some of the finest products available. Every component here serves a function, practically or aesthetically, and so many of our favourite brands are represented here. Some of our favourite highlights from this project are the 650b Pacenti Brevet tubeless rims, SimWorks/Hoshi raw brass spoke nipples, and we couldn’t finish a write-up on this bike without talking about the bar tape. Billy asked us when this build was getting wrapped up (pun intended,) up if we were familiar with the ornate cotton taping some folks offer and of course we are! Half of us in the shop are students of Grant Peterson after all! Twining and shellacking tape is a specialty service we offer at the shop and you think this ornate finish work is as cool as we do please hit us up. All in all, Billy’s Bloomfield is an amazing bike and we’re all proud to have worked on it.
Happy pedalling!
